Once I had researched some textures that would be on trend for Spring/Summer 17 I decided to buy some material to photograph to use on my website. I enjoy still life photography, so I thought I would add some to my 'Fashion' section.
I chose two materials - Silk and Linen as these were predicted to be very popular for S/S17, especially as linen would be an unusual material for a wedding dress. I kept the colours natural and traditional so I chose Ivory and White.
I knew the lighting would be difficult to get right for this photoshoot as both the materials were so light in colour. So I decided to use a still life platform, here are my favourite images -
I think I made the lighting work with the linen and although it was creased I placed it in a pile to catch some shadows. This helped catch the light and show that it was material rather than just a white sheet.
I love the way silk photographs, it looks sleek and clean and falls in all the right places. I can definitely see how this would be an on trend material for brides.
If I was to do this photoshoot again, I would ask an assistant to help me to try and get some action shots. I would also buy some more material to photograph, potentially some other colours that would be on trend to try out too.
